After studying at the State University of New York, James he forged a successful career in stand-up before an award at the 1996 Montreal Comedy Festival catapulted his hilarious, self-depreciating “loser comedy” into the public eye. Appearances on The Tonight Show and The Late Show with David Letterman followed; in 1998, James was cast in the lead role of the popular US sitcom The King of Queens. James, who also serves as executive producer on the show, received an Emmy nomination in 2006 for his portrayal of “family man” Doug Heffernan. Recently identified as “One of America’s 100 Most Creative People” by Entertainment Weekly magazine, Kevin James has gone on to co-star with Will Smith in the 2005 romantic comedy Hitch, and also provided voices for the hit children’s films Barnyard and Monster House.
