Built to Spill has become one of the most recognisable US indie bands of the last two decades, managing to successfully straddle both artistic credibility and commercial appeal.
Fronted by Doug Martsch, Built to Spill was formed in 1992 and has enjoyed critical acclaim ever since. Martsch originally planned to keep the band going with no other fixed members, before deciding on permanent additions Scott Plouf and Brett Nelson in 1996, and later Jim Roth.
Built to Spill have released 6 albums and toured extensively, garnering themselves a loyal and devoted fan base with their eclectic mix of influences – everything from indie and rock to new wave and reggae. In this way, Built to Spill has distinguished itself as something cleverly different.
