Jimmy Buffett is as well-known for his 'island escapism/beach bum' lifestyle as he is for his singing/songwriting abilities which saw him producing hits such as 'Margaritaville' and 'Come Monday'. Buffett began his official musical career in Nashville during the late 1960s, recording his first album, Down to Earth, in 1970. He soon moved to Key West and began establishing the easy-going persona for which he has become famous.
Buffett's third album, A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean,, was followed by Havana Daydreamin in 1976 and the following year, Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes the album that featured the breakthrough hit song 'Margaritaville'.
By the 1980s, Buffett was becoming more popular for his tours than for his albums and over the next twenty years released a series of albums, primarily to his devoted audience. In 2003, he partnered in a partial duet with Alan Jackson on the song 'It's Five O'clock Somewhere', which became a number one hit on the country charts. Buffett's most recent album, License to Chill, released in July 2004 and sold 238,600 copies in its first week of release. With this, Buffett topped the US pop albums chart for the first time in his three-decade career.
