Gladys is one of the most notable female soul stars of the last five decades.
In the late fifties Gladys and fellow Knight family members started what was to become the hugely successful "Pips", who had fame with hits like "Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me" and the #1 smash "Midnight Train to Georgia".
After a hugely successful career together and a number of Grammy awards, Gladys Knight went solo. During and prior to this, she recorded a number of hugely successful hits like the AIDS benefit single with Dionne Warwick, Elton John and Stevie Wonder "That's What Friends Are For", and the 1989 title track to the James Bond film License To Kill.
Gladys Knight has won several Grammy awards for her performances aside from her work with The Pips, and she and the group were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
