Mofro is a soul and southern rock band from north Florida, whose music belies their roots. Influenced by artists like Otis Redding, who their lead singer JJ often sings a tribute to at their concerts, Mofro argue that even more important than this is the impact of their surroundings on their music.
Brought up on his grandparents' farm in the beautiful forests of north Florida, JJ is proud to call himself a redneck, because of his love of the simple country life, but rejects the otherwise negative connotations of the term, which have nothing to do with him or the music of Mofro.
Mofro's first album Blackwater was released in 2001 and won them a devoted following. Their second album Lochloosa carries on their tradition of deeply felt soul music with a country twist.
