Smokey Robinson is songwriter, singer and musical mentor who has been hailed as one of the greatest writers of love songs.
As a member of The Miracles, and as a solo artist, Smokey Robinson made seventy top 40 hits between 1959 and 1990. As early as 1961 he was writing and performing huge hits, like "Shop Around" which sold more than 1 million copies.
At the famed Motown label Robinson was not only songwriter and performer, but vice-president and mentor to many artists too. He also wrote songs for many giants like Marvin Gaye and The Temptations.
Bob Dylan himself once pronounced Smokey Robinson as "America's greatest living poet".
After leaving The Miracles Smokey Robinson continued to achieve success and make hits. In 1987 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 1990 this honor was extended to the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame also.
