The critically acclaimed musical has now become the 25th longest-running production in Broadway history, having started previews on July 10 2003, and opened officially July 31.
About tonight's significant performance, an Avenue Q star Rod, the Republican investment banker, said: "I think those of us who live and work on 'The Ave' always knew we would reach this fabulous milestone. People love our show and we love doing it!"
The Tony Award-winning show features music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, a book by Jeff Whitty, and is directed by Jason Moore.
It won a 2004 Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.
