Patti Smith has been busy in the studio writing new material for a forthcoming album which is planned to coincide with her North American tour, due to kick off at the end of this month.
Following the release of her covers album Twelve earlier this year, Smith has had a frantic time, including being induced into The Hall of Fame back in March where she performed ‘People Have the Power’ alongside Eddie Vedder, Stephen Stills and Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones.
The rock star also plans to hold a tribute concert in New York on September 13 in memory of her late husband Fred ‘Sonic’ Smith. The date’s significance is not lost on the MC5 guitarist’s fans – it would have been his birthday. As well as Twelve, prolific song writer Smith has penned a number of albums over recent years including February 10, 1971 (2006), Horses/Horses (2005) and trampin' (2004).
