Prince has launched his new album in the UK in an unconventional way – not by selling it in stores, but by giving it away with a national newspaper.
Planet Earth – the artist’s twenty-fourth studio release – is not on sale in the UK until July 24, and the decision to release it in such a way through The Mail on Sunday has caused much controversy amongst record distributors.
Prince also plans to give away a copy of the album with each ticket bought for his upcoming string of shows in London.
“It's all about giving music for the masses”, Mail on Sunday managing director Stephen Miron told fellow paper The Guardian. “Prince believes in spreading the music he produces to as many people as possible.”
