The Spice Girls appeared together in public for the first time in six years yesterday at the arena on the Isle of Dogs, East London, to announce that they will reform for a world tour, set to take place over December and January.

The group will perform on 11 dates across eight countries; beginning with a concert in Los Angeles on December 7th, then moving on to Las Vegas, New York, London, Cologne, Madrid, Beijing, Hong Kong, Sydney, Cape Town and Buenos Aires.

It will be the first time all five have performed together since 1998, when Geri Halliwell left the group apparently due to “differences.”

The tour is being put together by the Spice Girl’s old manager; Simon Fuller's company - 19 Entertainment.

A greatest-hits album is due to be released by Virgin Records in November and the five group members will participate in an official TV documentary by Bob Smeaton (“The Beatles Anthology”) about their rise to fame.

"It's going to be the most honest story that you've ever heard," Halliwell commented on the documentary, "you get to see the dark side of the Spice Girls, the gritty side, the tears."

David Beckham is taking time off playing for LA Galaxy to accompany his wife Victoria (Posh Spice) on tour, along with their three children.

In fact, all seven of the children that the group has had between them will also be on the tour with their mothers.

Despite their achievements as a group; selling over 55 million worldwide during the course of their six year career, and the £10 million that each of them is reported to be getting from the tour, the girls said that they would not be reforming on a long term basis, the comeback is strictly a 'one-off'.
