Spice Girl star Melanie Brown has married her music producer boyfriend Stephen Belafonte in a secret Las Vegas wedding ceremony.
According to a spokesperson for the pop star, Brown and Belafonte were wed more than two months ago after a marriage license was filed in Clark County, Nevada.
The British singer has been dating Belafonte since splitting from ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy last year and had recently confessed she was ready to wed a second time saying that Belafonte was the love of her life.
In 1998 Brown married Jimmy Gulzar a Dutch dancer, and had daughter Phoenix Chi before divorcing in 2001.
Brown is currently fighting Eddie Murphy, with whom she had a relationship for several months last year, over child support payments for their four-month-old baby Angel Iris.
The news comes after it was revealed in several newspapers that Belafonte is a convicted wife beater having been charged with battering his the mother of his three-year-old daughter in a drunken rage. While he was spared jail, Belafonte, 32, was forced to take part in a 'Domestic Violence Batterers' programme.
According to a source, Melanie Brown is apparently aware of her new husband's past misdemeanours and while discussing her new marriage and plans to extend her immediate family on Larry King Live, she is quoted as saying: "We wanted it (marriage ceremony) to be a private thing right now, and a commitment just for me and him. That was important.”
