David Beckham’s Los Angeles Galaxy debut might be delayed due to a lingering injury he has to his ankle, espn’s MLS Soccernet has reported.

The ex-Manchester United soccer super-star is scheduled to play in a debut match with his new team, the LA Galaxy, on Saturday against Chelsea, but at the moment the famous player is limited to basic training, and is taking it day-by-day, according to Galaxy coach, Frank Yallop.

“His ankle is quite swollen,” Yallop told Soccernet. “We're hoping it recovers quickly and he can have some part in the game.”

Saturday's game, part of the four-team World Series of Football, is sold out and ESPN will televise it live, using 19 cameras to track Beckham, who has taken over from Landon Donavon as the team’s star.

“It's insane,” Galaxy defender Quaras Kirk said of their new recruit’s celebrity status. "It's like a circus. Obviously, we're not used to it, but it's great.”
