LA Galaxy’s new star player, David Beckham, will not be travelling with his team to play against FC Dallas today because of his lingering ankle problem.
LA Galaxy coach Frak Yallop told BBC Sport: “The swelling's not bad. It's just the soreness from the scar tissue, to be honest, that's in there right now and they're just working it out.”
“He won't be playing in the game against FC Dallas,” added club spokesman Patrick Donnelly. “We will check to see later in the week if he is fit to play in Sunday's MLS game against Toronto FC.”
The England mid-fielder has not been able to play or train with the team since his debut earlier this month against Chelsea, where he was only on the pitch for a short time, but, Yallop said, “He wanted to be on the bench and be involved in the locker room and it's obviously good to have him around. Just having him there is good for morale.”
Despite the pressure on Galaxy to make it through to the knockout stage of this round in between MLS and Mexican clubs, Yallop is not willing to risk sending Beckham on a long trip to Texas.
