Just one game into the season and the Philadelphia Flyers have already found a way to get further ahead of the Penguins than they did in the whole of the last season.
The Penguins suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Flyers Joffrey Lupul and Jeff Carter on Wednesday night, marking thief first victory against their division rival for two seasons.
Last season saw the Flyers struggle to get off the ground against their rivals, and set a new club record for losing the most number of games to a single opponent, going 0-8 against the Penguins.
Flyers’ defenseman Jason Smith said: “With so many new faces, we didn't think it would be the same. There weren't a lot of guys who were here last year, but we wanted to put that behind us. It's a new season and a fresh start.”
