British tennis player Tim Henman has failed to get past the second round of Wimbledon in his 14th appearance on home turf, losing to Spaniard Feliciano Lopez.
Henman, who is now the second ranked player in Britain - after the injured Scot Andy Murray - has never made it further than the semi-finals in the London tournament, and was really hoping to make his mark this year.
He made a good but nail-biting start when he played Carlos Moya on his opening match - the match went to five sets, with Henman finally taking the decider 13-11.
When he went onto court today to face Lopez in his second game, Henman made a less than perfect start – he was two sets and a break down and it looked like it was all over.
But, in true Henman style, the 32-year-old surprised himself and his adoring fans when he managed to pull back and take the game to a fifth and deciding set.
Unfortunately he didn’t have quite enough left to clinch the match, and he finally bowed out to his 25-year-old opponent 6-1 in the final set.
Lopez will now face France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the last 32.
