Despite delays because of the British summer weather at Wimbledon, British favorite Tim Henman came out on top after an epic first-round match against Carlos Moya yesterday.
After bad light halted their match on Monday evening, the two resumed play on Tuesday, when Moya double-faulted on Henman’s seventh match point to allow the four-time semi-finalist to take a momentous 6-3, 1-6, 5-7, 6-2, 13-11 victory.
The 32-year-old has inspired much hope in his fellow country folk for a British champion over the span of his career but he has always just fallen short of the final.
After avoiding his first first-round defeat since his Wimbledon debut 13 years ago, Henman will now face Feliciano Lopez today, under much tension and raised hopes amongst his fans, caused by yesterday’s win.
