Rangers’ record runs blow Orioles away

A record scoreline stunned baseball fans as the Texas Rangers beat the Baltimore Orioles 30-3 on August 22.

The Baltimore Orioles were originally leading the game 3-0 after three innings; however, the uncharacteristic win spelt the highest number of runs since the Chicago Colts hit 36 runs in 1897.

USA today cites surprised manager Ron Washington, saying "I'm just glad we were on this side of it."

The game also enabled the team to tie an American League record as nine different players each managed to score two or more runs.

Prior to this, the Rangers had scored a mere 28 runs in their previous nine games.

Interestingly, the team’s most deadly batter, Michael Young, had no RBI in the game and Sammy Sosa - who is currently fifth on the all-time home run list - did not feature in the game at all.

The victory marks the first time a team has scored 30 unanswered runs in the history of the game.
