Red Sox take World Series in Game 4

The Boston Red Sox won their seventh World Series on Sunday, beating the Colorado Rockies 4-3 at Coors Field in Denver.

The series is a best of seven, but the Red Sox only needed 4 to take the series - their second in four years - dashing the hopes of championship rookies, the Colorado Rockies, of their first title.

Until winning against the St Louis Cardinal in 2004, the Red Sox hadn’t won a World Series for 86 years, but 2007 really was their time – they outscored the Rockies 29-10 over the four games.

Mike Lowell got nine hits, including a double and a home run, but it was 23-year-old Jon Lester, who has recently overcome chemotherapy after being diagnosed with lymphoma last year, who pitched five scoreless innings and the final out to clinch the series.

"I'm ecstatic for him," said Lowell, who was named MVP for the series. "I don't think too many people expected him to be in that situation and against a very good hitting team in a tough park to pitch in.

"He did an excellent job.”
