The Boston Red Sox staked their claim for their seventh World Series when they beat the Colorado Rockies last night to take game 1 of the 2007 competition.
Dustin Pedroia led off the Red Sox with in the 1st innings when he slogged the ball over the Green Monster at Fenway Park for a homer.
The Boston then scored two other runs in the 1st. Both sides scored a run each in the second, but that was where it ended for the Rockies.
The Red Sox went on to score another nine runs - seven in the 5th thanks to three bases-loaded walks - to take the game 13-1.
But Rockies fans are still hopeful for their first ever World Series win despite the game 1 defeat.
The Colorado side came into the Series after winning 21 of their last 22 games and took two out of three fames from the Red Sox in an interleague series at Fenway Park.
Tonight’s game will also be in Boston, then games 3, 4 and 5 will be in Denver. If games 6 and 7 are needed, they will take place back in Boston.
