Spurs take fourth NBA title

The San Antonio Spurs have taken their fourth NBA title in nine seasons, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 83-82.

NBA commissioner David Stern handed called the Spurs a “team for the ages” when he handed them their fourth Larry O-Brien Trophy on Thursday.

And it was obviously quite an occasion, as San Antonio Express-news’ Johnny Ludden writes “Bruce Bowen leaped into Tim Duncan's arms, Manu Ginobili wrapped Tony Parker in a long hug and, together, they danced, celebrating another championship that only four months earlier seemed improbable, at best.

“The Spurs continued to bounce up and down in the center of Quicken Loans Arena, sharing the moment with only a few family members and friends in an otherwise somber sea of red, and who could blame them?

"They had been called old and tired, soft and dirty, and now they were only champions.”

The game saw Ginobli score 13 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter and Duncan emerge from his shooting slump to get 12 points and 15 rebounds.

But the star of the show was Parker – the 25-year-old scored 24 points and got seven rebounds to launch his team to victory.

"I'm speechless," Parker said, on winning his first NBA title. "When I look at that trophy, I'm going to wake up tomorrow and it's still going to be a dream."
