SuperLiga: Dynamo secures 1-0 victory over Amèrica

Houston Dynamo, the defending champions of Major League Soccer, have yet again proved that they are not just on top of their game but are heading for victory following a win on Wednesday night that saw Nate Jaqua score the only goal of the match at the end of the first half against Mexico’s Club Amèrica.

The game, held at Robertson Stadium, was the opening match for both clubs in the 2007 SuperLiga and proved yet another opportunity for the unstoppable Dynamo defence to put their formidable opponents in the shade. Despite a few chances for both sides in the first half, it was clear that Dynamo’s constant pressure would eventually pay off.

Victory came in the 41st minute after Waibel's throw-in was picked up by Holden who found Jaqua’s right foot and an empty goal.

Even after winning a free kick just outside the penalty area, Amèrica was clearly spent and it was another missed opportunity. Dynamo appeared to seal Amèrica’s fate when in the 85th minute, Mullan passed to Ngwenya who made a valiant effort at goal but was just offside. Within a minute, Ching responded with a header from a goal kick but the whistle has gone and the Orange were victorious.

The win puts the Houston Dynamos at the top of Group B. The next game will be on July 29 when they will be pitted against Monarcas Morelia.
