Number 7 seed Venus Williams faced yet another close call today against Japan’s Akiko Morigami to secure a fourth round place at Wimbledon.

Despite the obligatory British summer rain that delayed play and a match in which her opponent didn’t give anything away, the three-time champion managed to secure her place with a 6-2 3-6 7-5 victory.

Williams struggled to beat unseeded teenager Alla Kudryavtseva in the first round, and today wasn’t very different, but the American came through. "One of my strong points is being a tough competitor and a huge fighter. In my experience I feel like it should only go my way," said Williams.
