The US national basketball team beat Argentina 118-81 in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 3 to win gold in the Tournament of the Americas.
LeBron James played particularly well during the game, in a performance head coach Mike Krzyzewski described as “one of the best in an international game that an American player has had.”
He scored 12 points in the first quarter and went on to set a single game scoring record in Olympic qualifying action.
Eleven of the USA team’s 12 players scored during the contest, combining solid shooting tactics and strong defense.
The USA achieved 42-of-73 tries from the field (58 per cent) and 20-of-41 attempts from three-point (49 per cent.)
Both teams qualified for the 2008 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which will offer the top three teams with a spot in the 2008 Olympics.
