The Wake Forest College basketball team are today mourning the loss of their dedicated coach, Skip Prosser, who died on Thursday from a suspected heart attack.
The 56 year old was found collapsed in this office by a colleague after going for a jog. The alarm was raised and CPR was on performed on Prosser by medical personnel, before he was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 1:41 p.m. It is thought he suffered a massive heart attack.
Speaking at a news conference on Thursday night, Athletics Director Ron Wellman said Prosser’s death was "a devastating loss" and he had not been previously aware of any health worries the coach may have had.
Born on November 3, 1950, in Pittsburgh, Prosser graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1972 before beginning his coaching career after he was hired as an assistant coach for Xavier University team in Cincinnati. He remained here for eight seasons before moving on to coach Wake Forest in 2001.
Prosser leaves behind wife Nancy, and sons Scott and Mark.
