The Broadway revival, A Chorus Line, is going on a national tour – beginning in Denver next year.
The musical, which was first performed at the Shubert Theatre in 1975, is currently enjoying a revival at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre and it has now been announced that it is due to go out on the road in 2008.
The tour will begin on May 6, 2008 at the Buell Theatre at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, and stay until May 17 before a seven-week stint at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles from May 21-July 6, 2008.
Other rumored cities for the tour include Washington DC, Toronto, Seattle and Philadelphia.
A Chorus Line, originally directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett, tells the story of 17 dancers auditioning for a new Broadway musical.
The job is the chance of a lifetime, but before the final cut – down to eight – is made, the director tells each of the dancers to talk about themselves.
But he doesn’t just want their names, ages and hometowns; he wants to know it all - families, friends, lovers, ambitions and careers.
Some are shy and some will tell their whole life story – A Chorus Line is about 17 dancers who "put themselves on the line to get a job on the line"
First performed in the 1970s, the current revival opened in October 2006, and has been a massive hit so far, with takings of more than $8million so far.
