The Coast of Utopia trilogy by Tom Stoppard and Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater’s Spring Awakening received Outstanding Play and Outstanding Musical, respectively, at the 52nd annual Drama Desk Awards on Friday.
Both also won best director for a play and a musical, for Utopia’s Jack O’Brien and Spring Awakening’s Michael Mayer. In total, the former won seven awards – the most of any production this season – and the latter took home four.
Other winners included Company for Outstanding Revival of a Musical, Journey’s End for Outstanding Revival of a Play, and Actor/Actress accolades for A Moon for the Misbegotten, Frost/Nixon, LoveMusik, and 110 in the Shade.
