Harvey Fierstein plans to come back to Broadway, as a writer and actor of a new musical.
The multi Tony Award-winning actor, playwright and screenwriter will be returning as the author of A Catered Affair, a new musical about the wedding plans and family relationships of a family from the Bronx.
Fierstein, last seen on Broadway in Hairspray, will be writing the book as well as playing the leading role, with a score by John Bucchino and direction by John Doyle, who was also behind the recent Broadway revivals of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd and Company.
Based on a teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky and a 1956 film of the same name, .A Catered Affair will have its world premier in San Diego at the Old Globe this fall, followed by a spring opening in New York next year.
