Broadway show High School Musical 2 has been receiving positive reviews from critics.
It follows on from popular ‘telepic’ High School Musical, which tells the story of popular pupil Troy (Zac Efron) and ‘geeky’ Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens), who overcome stereotypes, united by their love of singing.
The sequel focuses on class divides between the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’, with Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) stirring up trouble and taking on a much bigger role than in the first show.
Chad (Corbin Bleu) and Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) are also given more of a chance to display their dancing prowess.
Songs include "What Time Is It?" – the opener – "You Are the Music in Me", "All for One", "Music in Me" and "Work This Out".
Variety’s Laura Fries said: “Proving that lightning can and does strike twice, High School Musical 2 actually surpasses the first movie in sheer energy and verve.”
