In the wake of High School Musical's huge success, the Disney Channel has decided that there is to be TV sequel – High School Musical 2 – released this summer.

Disney's entertainment president, Gary Marsh revealed "We have seen clearly what our audience responds to … The challenge is not to fall into the trap of taking the easy way out and making the same kind of thing."

To keep it fresh, executives have posted 10 questions on its website asking fans to help with making some of the decisions, receiving 27 million votes in just 20 days.

Disney Network president Rich Ross has reflected on the success of such feel-good movies as being their answer to what kids want in contemporary society. "Kids are going through a lot today, maybe more than ever", he said. "They want to smile and relax and laugh. Laughter is the antidote to a crazy world."

While Disney is keeping details of High School Musical 2 under its hat, it is expected to equal its predecessor's success and become a major part of many kids' summers.
