IDOL: The Musical previews start July 5

It’s not long now until fans of American Idol and, more to the point, of Clay Aikin, can see IDOL: The Musical, which begins previews July 5 off-Broadway at the 45th Street Theatre.

The brand new musical, with a book and direction by Bill Boland, music by Jon Balcourt and lyrics co-written by both, is a satirical comedy that focuses on the outrageous and delusional fan base of the hit TV series and the worship of Clay Aikin, centering around a group of dork-like students who are chasing after their ‘5 minutes of fame’.

They all belong to a club that worships Aikin – who came second place in season two and has been the most successful of any runners up – and each have bizarre backgrounds and life stories which add to the drama of IDOL: The Musical.

Tickets are also currently on sale for American Idol Live!, the series’ musical national tour.
