The Minnesota Golden Gophers are accompanied in many of their home and away basketball games by a marching band and cheerleaders, co-ordinated by the university’s athletics department. The Golden Gophers have achieved much in college basketball throughout their long history, with a number of Sweet 16 appearances and more than eight bids to the NCAA Tournament.
The roots of the team date back to before 1906, giving the Golden Gophers a playing history of over one hundred years. The team’s current home is the Williams Arena in Minneapolis, located on the Twin Cities campus and with a home seating capacity of more than 14,000 fans.
