The Detroit Pistons have enjoyed substantial success both in recent years and the past, playing their way to three Championship Titles, five Conference titles and nine Division titles during their time in the NBA. The Pistons also played in the NBA’s predecessor, the National Basketball League, and under the name of the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons won two Championships and four Division titles from 1943 through to 1946.
Today, the Pistons play out of the Palace of Auburn Hills arena in Detroit, having moved to the city in 1957. The Palace of Auburn Hills is one of the largest arenas in the NBA, with seating for up to 22,076 fans and facilities that include dining, premium seating and Vito Anthony suites. The Pistons have changed arenas a number of times in their history, originally playing out of the North Side High School Gym during their time as the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons.
Along with their successes in the NBA, the Detroit Pistons have also had ten former members admitted to the Basketball Hall of Fame, including two coaches and seven players. They have also retired eight numbers in honour of past contributors to the team. Recent history has seen the Pistons win the Division title four out of five years from 2002 to 2006, with the only break in 2004 when they went on to win the NBA Championship. This, and the continuing strength of the team, indicates fans of the Detroit Pistons can look forward to many exciting seasons to come.
