The Indiana Pacers were first established in 1967, and played in the opening season of the American Basketball Association. The Pacers were one of the most successful teams in that league, winning three Championship titles, five Conference titles and three Division titles over the 1969-1975 seasons. Despite this record the Pacers were not able to continue this success following the merger of the ABA into the NBA and lacked their previous consistency for many years. Recent times however have seen the Pacers re-establish their winning ways, starting the late 20th and early 21st century with one Conference and four Division titles.
The Indiana Pacers originally played out of the Pepsi Coliseum, and moved to their current arena the Conseco Fieldhouse in 1999. Through this, the Pacers are able to enjoy seating for up to 18,350 fans, with facilities including dining, premium seating and luxury suites. The Pacers have never moved city as a franchise, remaining in their home city of Indianapolis since they were first established.
The history of the Pacers has seen one of their players, Alex English, promoted to the Basketball Hall of Fame along with five former coaches. They have also retired five numbers in honour of former players and contributors.
