The New Jersey Nets have won 2 Conference Titles and 4 Division Titles in their NBA history. The Nets joined the competition in 1976 following the merger of the rival American Basketball Association tournament with the NBA. During their time in the ABA they also enjoyed considerable success, achieving 2 Championships and 1 Division Title over three seasons.
Based out of the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the Nets are able to enjoy capacity seating of up to 20,000 fans, with facilities such as restaurants, diners and over 29 luxury suites. The Continental Airlines Arena is also part of the wider Meadowlands complex, with numerous other venues offering family entertainment and other sports.
The franchise was originally named the New Jersey Americans when it was established, and played in the 1967-1968 season under that name. After changing cities and name the following year to become the New York Nets, the franchise played for a decade at its new location. However, the merger between the ABA and NBA eventually lead to its current incarnation, when in 1977 the franchise moved back to its roots to become the New Jersey Nets.
The New Jersey Nets have had many successful periods throughout their playing history, with four former players now listed in the Basketball Hall of Fame. More recently, the Nets have begun to establish themselves as serious contenders for the NBA Championship, reaching the finals in the 2001-03 and 2002-03 seasons.
