The New York Knickerbockers are one of the best known basketball franchises in the US. They are one of the charter members of the NBA and one of only two to still retain their original cities. The team have dominated the sport in three different eras of its history, with the most recent being from the late eighties to the early years of the 21st Century.
Decked out in the colours of blue, orange and white, the New York Knicks have gone on to win two Championships, eight Conference Titles and eight Division Titles in their history. The Knicks are currently located in the Eastern Conference division of the NBA, with rival teams located all across the US.
The New York Knicks have been based out of the Madison Square Garden arena in New York City since 1968. Situated on top of Pennsylvania Station, Madison Square Garden follows an advertising slogan of, "The World’s Most Famous Arena" and has a capacity of almost 20,000. It has replaced a series of three past buildings, with a new fifth arena planned in the future.
Their eras of dominance have often been based around specific coaches or players, with the most recent lead by Patrick Ewing. Ewing propelled the New York Knicks to great successes up until he was traded to another team in September 2000. This was followed the following year by the resignation of popular coach Jeff Van Gundy. Despite this, there is great optimism for the future amongst Knicks fans.
