The Sacramento Kings are one of the oldest franchises playing in the NBA today. Originally founded in 1945, the Kings have been playing basketball for more than sixty years. Known as the Rochester Royals in their original incarnation, the franchise has won one NBA Championship and five division titles in its history, reaching the play-offs more than twenty-eight times.
The Kings are currently based out of the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California; a replacement for a previous arena of the same name. The new ARCO Arena allows the Kings to enjoy many new facilities, including dining, restaurants, luxury suites and seating for up to 17,000 fans. The new arena has seen successes including the Division Titles of 2002 and 2003.
The Kings’ long history has seen five former members elevated to the Basketball Hall of Fame and over six numbers retired in honour of past contributors. The Kings’ past and recent successes, including over twenty-five play-offs and eight consecutive play-off contentions from 1998 to 2006, has bolstered fans’ hopes for success in the coming seasons.
