Established in 1967, the SuperSonics are one of the only NBA teams to still play in their original stadium. The Seattle SuperSonics are also one of the few teams to have never changed their franchise name or city over their entire history. This commitment, combined with the SuperSonics’ historical value of being Seattle’s first professional sports franchise, make the SuperSonics a popular favourite among fans. The team has gone on to win the 1979 NBA Championship, three Conference titles and six Division titles.
Currently based out of the KeyArena in Seattle, Washington, the SuperSonics currently enjoy facilities including seating for up to 17,000 fans, restaurants, dining and premium suites. They have seen many periods of success, with a recent awards coming with their 2005 Division title and 2004-05 Conference semi-finals.
As part of their history, the Seattle SuperSonics have had one former player/coach admitted to the Basketball Hall of Fame. They have also retired five numbers in honour of former contributors. Having reached more than twenty-one play-offs in the history of their team, Seattle SuperSonics’ fans are anticipating more success in the coming years.
