The first official football game of the North Carolina State Wolfpack took place in 1982. Fifteen years later they played their first on-campus game on the field that would later become part of Riddick Stadium. The Wolfpack stayed with their original stadium for many years, moving to the new Carter-Finley Stadium in 1966.
Some of the notable players of the North Carolina State Wolfpack are John Ripple, Clyde Chesney and Ted Brown, with John Ripple the first NCSU All-American in any intercollegiate sport.
The Wolfpack’s first televised game was in 1950. The team’s first bowl game win came seventeen years later, in the 1967 Liberty Bowl against Georgiea. The Wolfpack have also enjoyed strong success in the AAC conference, winning their first conference championship in 1979.
