The UMass Lowell River Hawks ice hockey team are the University of Massachusetts Lowell’s only NCAA Division I side.
UMass’ other sides are all in Division II, and the hockey team were NCAA Division II champions three times before moving up to Division I in 1979, 1981 and 1982.
The River Hawks, whose name is inspired by the nearby Merrimack River, play their home games at the 6,496 capacity Tsongas Arena where they receive warm support from home fans and University mascot, River Hawk.
