The Anaheim Ducks, formerly known as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, were founded in 1993, and play in the 17,174 capacity Honda Center (formerly known as Arrowhead Pond).
The team originally took their name from the popular film "The Mighty Ducks", in connection with their (now former) ownership by Walt Disney. The team has showed strong promise relatively quickly, reaching the playoffs for the first time in the 1996/7 season.
In 2003 Anaheim pulled a surprise victory out of the bag when, after qualifying for the playoffs they swept the Detroit Red Wings and going on to the Stanley Cup Final.
Recent years have seen a takeover of the Ducks, but fans were happy to hear there was a promise to keep them in Anaheim.
