Founded in 1970 by local businessmen Seymour and Northrup Knox, the Buffalo Sabres wear navy blue, gold and silver. Their home is the HSBC Arena, which holds up to 18,690 fans.
The Buffalo Sabres history sports some famous names including Gilbert Perreault, who was picked in their inaugural amateur entry draft. Perreault won the Calder Trophy in his and the teams first season as the NHL’s best rookie. Following trades and drafts, the renowned "French Connection" of Martin, Perrault and Robert made their debut playoff appearance in 1973, thereafter making the Stanley Cup final in 1974.
