After a turbulent past, The Carolina Hurricanes have come back fighting.
Formerly known as the New England Whalers (1972-79) and the Hartford Whalers (1979-97), the Hurricanes moved to North Carolina in 1997 after problems securing permission for a new arena.
By the 1999/2000 season the Hurricanes had finally made it to the RBC Center (formerly the Entertainment and Sports Arena), which has remained their home. This would appear to have been the right backdrop for them to secure victory, as following this, the Carolina Hurricanes went on to see more and more crucial wins, before unfortunately missing titles two seasons running.
However, much to the surprise of critics, the Carolina Hurricanes heroically took home the Stanley Cup in 2005/6. This was the first major league sports title for a team from the Carolinas. This Cup, when added to their other notable victories including 2 Conference Championships and 3 Divisional Championships, certainly makes the future look bright for the Carolina Hurricanes.
