The Dallas Stars were founded as the Minnesota North Stars in 1967 and achieved much success both on the ice and in terms of ticket sales.
After experiencing a dip in fortunes in the mid 1970s they merged with the Cleveland Barons in 1978, and heroically reached the Stanley Cup Final in 1981. In 1993 the team moved to the Reunion Arena in Dallas in 1993, and were renamed the Stars.
This proved to be a good move, as in 1999 the team were once against Stanley Cup finalists, but this time they took home the silverware. At the beginning of the 2001/2 NHL season the Dallas Stars moved to their new home the 18,000 capacity American Airlines Center.
Besides their 1999 Cup win, the Dallas Stars have won two Presidents’ Trophies, as the team with the best overall record. They also won seven Division titles and two Western Conference titles in nine seasons.
