The Detroit Red Wings were founded in 1926 and were formerly known as the Detroit Cougars (1926-1930) and the Detroit Falcons (1930-1932). They were actually founded after the Western Hockey League disbanded when the Detroit franchise took players of the 1925 Stanley Cup winners Victoria Cougars to play in Windsor, Ontario.
After two renamings of the team and a merger with the Chicago Shamrocks, the Red Wings began to dominate the NHL, winning 10 Stanley Cups, 4 Conference Championships, and 15 Division Championships to their credit.
The Red Wings wear red and white, and play at the 20,066 Joe Louis Arena.
