Founded in 1992, Tampa Bay Lightning’s 53 points in 1992-93 was one of the best ever showings from an NHL expansion team, even whilst they were still playing at the tiny Expo Hall.
The following season Tampa Bay Lightning continued to achieve bigger and better things, moving to Florida Suncoast Dome in St Petersburg, and making the playoffs for the first time in 1995/6.
Following this, in the 1996/7 season the Lightning moved to St Pete Times Forum, (formerly the Ice Palace) with an impressive capacity of 19,500.
After a number of problematic injuries to star players in the late 1990s, Tampa Bay Lightning showed themselves to be a team of undefeated spirits, reaching the playoffs in 2002/3. In 2003/4 they went even further, setting a record as the youngest NHL expansion team ever to win a Stanley Cup. Still holding this title, the Lightning continues to go strong.
