Known as "The Black-and-Red", DC United are Washington DC's professional soccer team.
One of the most successful teams in Major League Soccer, the capital's side has won the MLS Cup four times – in 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2004, were US Open Cup champions in 1996 and took the Supporters' Shield in 1997, 1999 and 2006.
DC United plays its home games at the Robert F Kennedy Memorial Stadium – also the home of MLB's Washington Nationals – but is hoping to soon move to its own soccer-specific ground.
Mainly due to DC United's success, Washington is one of the most soccer mad cities in the United States, and The Black-and-Red often play to big crowds, which include their official fan clubs - La Barra Brava, the Screaming Eagles and La Norte - and team mascot Talon the eagle.
