New Orleans is the birthplace of jazz, and of jazz's most famous father, the legendary Louis Armstrong, and every night of the week, the streets and clubs of the 'Big Easy' are alive with vibrant music.
With clubs like The House of Blues and Tipitinas, playing everything from traditional to acid jazz, there is something for every ear in this city. New Orleans other claim to fame is as 'America's First City of Opera' thanks to the 1796 performance of André Ernest Grétry’s Sylvain. Home to the New Orleans Opera Association and some of the best opera houses in the country – including the Mahalia Jackson Theatre of the Performing Arts – opera is still a very big part of New Orleans' culture.
And for sports fans, New Orleans is famously home to the Louisiana Superdome, which is the home ground of the New Orleans Saints of the NFL. New Orleans also has a team in the NBA – the Hornets and college basketball side, the New Orleans Privateers always receive good home support. New Orleans has a rich and vibrant culture, and despite the affects of hurricane Katrina is still a wonderful place to visit with much to offer.
