Philadelphia is one of the oldest and most historically significant cities in the United States, and as a result is on of the most popular tourist attractions in the county. The original capital of America, and the birth place of the American Revolution, Philadelphia's is home to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell and was the hometown of one of America's most significant political, scientific and social thinkers - Benjamin Franklin.
Also famous as the setting for the Rocky films, Philadelphia's streets and buildings are some of the most recognisable in the world. Also known as Philly, the city is well known for its sports, and has four successful major league sides. The national football team, the Philadelphia Eagles, who play at Lincoln Financial Field, have won the Super Bowl three times and the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers are two time champs. The Philadelphia Phillies, who play at Citizens Bank Park have won the World Series, and the basketball team, the Philadelphia 76ers have two NBA titles to their name.
So with top sports sides, some great music theatres and playhouses downtown - including Academy of Music, Wachovia Center, Walnut Street Theater and the Electric Factory – as well as plenty of exhibitions built around the city's historical importance, including at the Franklin Institute Science Museum, Philly literally has something for everyone.
