Known as the 'City of Oaks' because of its oak trees, Raleigh is the second biggest city in the state of North Carolina and one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.
One of Raleigh's most popular attractions is the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts, which encompasses the Memorial Auditorium, the Reynolds Coliseum and the Walnut Creek Amphitheatre. The Progress Energy Center houses some of the biggest acts in the music, stage and comedy scenes, attracting large audiences every week as does the Alltel Pavilion at Walnut Creek.
Raleigh is also home to the National Hockey League side, the Carolina Hurricanes. The franchise moved to Raleigh in 1997 from Hartford, Connecticut. The Hurricanes played their first to season in Greensboro, North Carolina, while their new stadium, the RBC Center was being built. The Hurricanes have been successful since the move, winning the coveted Stanley Cup in 2006. Raleigh is a beautiful city with a lot to offer – so whether you are into live music, shows or a good old-fashioned hockey game, Raleigh is sure to please.
